Samoa road block trial enters second day

3:26 pm on 30 April 2013

A number of supporters have shown up at court in Samoa for the second day of MP Toeolesulusulu Cedric Schuster's trial.

Toeolesulusulu was among the residents of Satapuala who blocked the main road to Faleolo International Airport last year.

The villagers were angry over the government's allocation of land at Satapuala for the construction of a hospital and set up two stone wall fences, which blocked the road.

Our correspondent, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia, says the trial is hearing 30 crown witnesses before the defence presents its case on Wednesday.

He says Toeolesulusulu is still an MP despite the trial.

"He is still taking the seat for Analofi No. 3 because everyone is innocent until proven in court. So, he's still the member of parliament until such time when the court will make a decision."

The trial is scheduled to end on Friday.
