American Samoa calls on Cabinet to innovate to boost economy

7:13 am on 3 May 2013

The American Samoa governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has called on his cabinet to come up with new ideas to boost the economy and create jobs.

The governor says they must find ways to help residents because the current low employment environment is unsustainable.

Lolo told directors that they make up a highly educated and skilled group and so should bring in new ideas because economic development involves everyone.

"It is important that we all get together and work together because otherwwise we don't see any change at all. So hopefully at the end of this fiscal year we will start moving forward with some new ideas."

Lola Matalasi Moliga says if all goes as planned Tri Marine will launch its canning operations towards the end of next year, providing work for about 1,000 workers.
