Sport: Weekend to forget for Pacific sides as NZ clinch sevens title

10:18 am on 6 May 2013

It was a weekend to forget for the Pacific sides competing at the penultimate round of the World Sevens Series in Glasgow.

Fiji topped Pool C, but were beaten by England in the Cup quarter finals before a shock 22-7 defeat to the USA in the plate semis.

Samoa failed to make the Cup quarters after losing to Canada and South Africa in pool play, and eventually bowed out in the bowl semi finals against Australia.

South Africa held off New Zealand 28-21 in the final - their third Cup win in four tournament - but it wasn't enough to prevent the All Black Sevens wrapping up their 11th series title and third in a row.

The final round is in London next weekend.
