It will be about a year before the American Samoa Power Authority can address problems with water wells which have forced residents to boil water before drinking.
Executive director, Utu Abe Malae, says the Authority needs to do a lot of work before the boil water notice can be lifted.
It has been two years since villages from Iliili to Leloaloa have been placed under a boil water notice.
In February, additional boil water notices was issued for parts of Malaeloa, Lepuapua and Taputimu through to Poloa.
Asked how long these areas will be under boil water notices, Utu says it is going take 12 months to address the contamination issues.
"I know that is not very good for a water utility on US soil, to be having these boil water notices but we had serious problems with our wells, we have about 9 wells that we have to either rehabilitate, abandon or replace. So that's what we are working on right now."
