The Solomon Islands health ministry is asking the government for an extra 350,000 US dollars to help it deal with the dengue fever outbreak that began more than three months ago.
The mosquito-borne disease has now killed six people, all in the capital Honiara, and is thought to have infected almost four thousand people.
The ministry's permanent secretary, Dr Lester Ross, says rapid diagnostic testing has confirmed the illness in one thousand people.
He says the outbreak appears to be easing but tomorrow's weekly report will determine whether that is the case.
"There's lesser people going into the wards now, being admitted, and there hasn't been any blood transfusion in the last two weeks, so we just hope that things will get better from this point."
Dr Lester Ross says a lot of work has gone into cleaning up rubbish, which is a breeding ground for mosquitoes, but there is still much more to be done.
