The Northern Marianas government is considering creating a tourism office in Russia due to overwhelming growth in the number of visitors from there.

The Managing Director of the Marianas Visitors Authority, Perry Tenorio says a proposal is now on the board of directors' table for deliberation.

Mr Tenorio says once decision is finalised, the Visitor Authority's offshore office will be established in Russia next fiscal year.

He says the sole objective is to capture more travelers from the market.

At present, the CNMI has three tourism offices: in Japan, South Korea, and China.

Arrivals from Russia in March this year registered 1,648 arrivals, a 140 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
