Fiji's United Front says no police threat at upcoming meeting

The United Front for a Democratic Fiji is satisfied there is no threat of arrest at the group's next meeting this week.

Organisers of the meeting are reported to have been warned off talking about land issues and the Fiji Sun earlier reported a warning from police that any political party or member found spreading lies to cause trouble would be charged.

A United Front spokesman, Dr Tupeni Baba, says the group met with police on Monday and were told they had not been warned.

The meeting in Nasinu near Suva is one of a series called to discuss the regime's draft constitution.

The United Front, comprising union leaders and politicans, has been vocal in denouncing what they see as a lack of safeguards for indigenous land in the draft.
