Samoa Finance minister wins caucus vote to remain in cabinet

Samoa's Minister of Finance Faumuina Tiatia Liuga will keep his ministerial portfolio following a party caucus vote last night.

The vote was taken after a letter from HRPP party MPs to the prime minister asking to remove the ministerial position from Faumuina.

He has been criticised for spending a quarter of a million US dollars for his new office.

He has also come under fire for the 800 thousand dollar compensation paid by the government following a court case with a company he had evicted from government land.

HRPP party leader and Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, told reporters the concerns raised were discussed according to Samoan customs and traditions and MPs have agreed for Faumuina to continue as minister for finance.

Tuila'epa also added he had asked for a vote to clear any doubts.
