Background check on new hospital CEO ordered in American Samoa

A second background check of American Samoa's new hospital chief executive officer is currently being conducted after concerns surfaced over Joseph Davis-Fleming's background.

Mr Davis-Fleming officially took over the CEO post at the LBJ hospital on April the 25th.

In a letter to the governor announcing his appointment last month, the hospital board said a full background check was conducted on the candidate and when the board received clearance on his background, an offer was made to him.

However the second check is now being conducted by the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security.

Homeland Security director Utuali'i Iuni Savusa has confirmed the hospital requested the background check.

The request was made by the hospital's Human Resources department after it was uncovered that the new CEO has a different name appearing on his personal identification documents, separate from the one the hospital used for his initial background check.

Mr Davis-Fleming's last job was executive director for CURE International in Kabul, Afghanistan.
