About 500 new jobs will be available to youth in American Samoa next month.
The temporary jobs are being offered under the government's summer youth employment programme and will be the biggest number of job openings for young people in recent years.
The high number of jobs comes in response to the governor's call to directors within government departments to find more openings for youth and money from the the Community Servcie Block Grant, which will fund 300 slots.
Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga says some directors have complained that their grant funding cannot accommodate any student employment but Governor Lolo told his cabinet they must find a way around such restrictions.
