Sport: Cook Islands targeting top spot at Pacific Netball Series

11:31 am on 23 May 2013

The Cook Islands netball team have set themselves a lofty goal for next month's Pacific Series in Apia.

The 14th ranked nation need to win the four-team tournament, which also features Samoa, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, in order to to qualify for next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

It's been nearly eight months since the Cook Islands last match at the international level but head coach Mii Maui is optimistic.

"We're going to do our best because, prior to us realising we had to win, our main focus was just to become top two and that was achievable for us - that was something that we thought we could aim for and achieve. Then just a couple of weeks ago when the ranking came out we realised we're actually not where we want to be so we changed our vision to focusing on looking at winning the competition."

The Pacific Series gets underway on the third of June.
