Fiji parties given two weeks to declare assets

The three registered political parties in Fiji have two weeks to declare their assets and liabilities to the Registrar of Political parties.

According to the regime's political parties decree, the parties, their applicants and executives will have to reveal their assets and liabilities as well as those of their spouses and children.

Fiji Village reports they also have to provide their income details as well as disclose any directorships, business transactions or any gifts received.

However, gifts received from close friends and relatives in a traditional way and gifts given on behalf of the nation will be exempted.

The decree states all of the declarations will be gazetted and published in the media.

The Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, says the party has its declarations ready and will deal with them as and when necessary.
