Unconfirmed reports emerge from Papua of mass killings

There are early and unconfirmed reports of a mass killing in the Papua region of Indonesia, not far from the site of the recent mine collapse in the Puncak Jaya highlands.

West Papua Media Alerts have published the names of 13 people that were reported to be found dead and mutilated in the Tingginambut district in Papua, a remote farming area.

Their reports say the total dead could be about 40 or 50 people.

The KNPB or West Papua National Committee are pointing the finger at the Kopassus, or Special Forces of the Indonesian army.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred in the same area as the killing of eight Kopassus soldiers by supposed guerilla fighters in February.
