Tax Exemption Board in American Samoa reconstituted

10:30 am on 28 May 2013

The new Tax Exemption Board in American Samoa will review all existing tax exemptions granted to businesses in the territory.

Governor Lolo Moliga has reconstituted the board and appointed the Treasurer Falema'o Dr Phil Pili as chairman.

Dr Pili says the new board has familiarised itself with the mission and responsibilities of the Tax Exemption Board and has set target goals for the next six months.

He says among them is a review of all existing tax exemptions.

Under the tax exemption laws, tax free holidays of varying terms are granted to companies as a way to generate jobs and stimulate the local economy.
