Three Papua New Guinea policemen are reported to have used bush knives to cut the Achilles tendons of a number of suspects apprehended in Port Moresby.

The police had intervened after fatal communal violence and asked about 30 suspects to walk to the Gordon police station for having carried bush knives.

On their way, the group was made to lie down and three officers chopped the men's tendons.

It is not known how many men were injured.
