French Polynesia ends medical training deal with NZ uni

6:23 pm on 30 May 2013

The new French Polynesian government has terminated an agreement with the University of Auckland to train doctors.

The arrangement had been put in place by the previous government, which was to fund the medical studies of three French Polynesian students.

A statement issued in Papeete says the deal was ended because New Zealand qualifications are not recognised within the French system.

It also cites costs to the French Polynesian government of more than two million US dollars.
