US to investigate death of American Samoan builder

The United States Department of Labour iss investigating the death of a construction worker in American Samoa, with a federal inspector being dispatched to Pago Pago.

Paramount Builders president Papali'i Lauli'i Alofa says his employee Lole Malai, who died while on the job last Monday, had not connected his harness and this led to his fall.

Deanne Amaden, a spokesperson with the Department of Labour, says their Honolulu office is aware of the death and has opened an inspection of the company.

She says an officer will conduct an on-site investigation, which could take up to six months.
