Church groups in Vanuatu wanting cash or sex from patients condemned

10:03 am on 15 June 2013

The Vanuatu Christian Council has condemned reports of church groups praying with patients in Vila central hospital and then demanding cash or sex from the patients.

The Chief Surgeon Richard Leona told the Daily Post Newspaper that he has received the reports from his staff

Dr Leona says hospital management will not tolerate such behaviour in the wards saying they are going to be strict on who should be allowed in to pray with patients.

The Vanuatu's Christian Council Secretary-General Pastor, Shem Temar, says they are treating the reports very seriously and if proved true, those named will to be handed over to the police to face the full force of the law.
