Fiji's CCF back in court for mitigation and pre-sentence hearing

7:40 am on 17 June 2013

Fiji's Citizens' Constitutional Forum, and its chief executive, the Reverend Akuila Yabaki will be back in court today for a mitigation and pre-sentence hearing.

The NGO was found guilty of contempt of court by the High Court in Suva last month over an article they published in April last year.

The article titled 'Rule of Law Lost' was published in Tutaka, the NGO's quarterly letter.

The Attorney General's office brought the case, claiming the article offended and undermined Fiji's judiciary.

The CCF is expected to argue the NGO is not a media outlet and has a small distribution.

The sentence is expected to be delivered by Justice William Callanchini later this week.
