Wallis power savings mooted to curb effect on fivefold French price

A French commission has proposed to improve the supply chain for fuel to Wallis and Futuna as one of the avenues to lower electricity costs.

The report by the Energy Regulation Commission found that power costs in the archipelago are now five times higher than in mainland France.

It says there also has to be a push to produce more electricity using solar power but says this poses storage problems.

Further options to cut power consumption include using better appliances and insulating air-conditioned buildings.

The overseas territories ministry says a deal may have to be found between the territorial assembly and the power company, in which the assembly is a shareholder.
