The judge presiding in a contempt of court case involving a prominent Fiji civil society group will deliver his sentence at a later date.

The President of the Fiji Court of Appeal, Justice William Callanchini, heard submissions yesterday in a mitigation hearing for the Citizen's Constitutional Forum and its head, the Reverend Akuila Yabaki.

The NGO was found guilty of contempt of court by the High Court in Suva last month over an article published in April last year.

The article entitled 'Rule of Law Lost' was published in the group's quarterly letter.

The defence counsel requested a non-custodial sentence while lawyers from the office of the Attorney-General asked for a custodial sentence of no less than six months for Reverend Yabaki and a fine of no less than 54,000 US dollars and a good behaviour bond of the same amount.
