Fiji Local Government Minister resigns

7:06 pm on 18 June 2013

A minister in Fiji's military-led government has resigned saying he needs to take a month long break and have a complete rest.

Colonel Samuela Saumatua who was the Minister for Local Government and Housing has told FBC News it was time to leave as age had caught up with him.

The Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is acting as the Minister until a successor is appointed.

Colonel Saumatua's resignation follows the government's sacking last week of two local administrators amid an investigation by Fiji's anti-corruption agency, FICAC.
