No comment from Fiji interim government on promised investigation

The Fiji government is still refusing to comment on its own investigation into the injuries received by escaped prisoners during their recapture in September last year.

At least four of the five men, who escaped from Naboro prison, were hospitalised, including one who had to have his leg amputated after being captured in a joint operation by police and soldiers.

At the time the government issued a statement, saying it didn't condone excessive force used in the apprehension of the prisoners and was investigating.

But despite repeated attempts to get comment from the Ministry of Information, which was set up to provide a link between the government and media, there has been none forthcoming.
