Veteran playmaker Uale Ma'i has been handed a shock recall to the Samoan seven team for the World Cup in Moscow at the end of the month.

The 34 year old didn't feature in Samoa's sevens line-up over the past 12 months but has been brought out of the wilderness by coach Stephen Betham, who worked with him during the country's World Series winning campaign in 2010.

Fellow veteran Lolo Lui retains his place as does Alafoti Faosiliva, who was absent for much of the recent World Series campaign.

Paul Perez returns to the side, having last played at the Hong Kong Sevens in March, while Afa Aiono, who was selected in the IRB World Series team of the year, has been named captain.

Manu Samoa fifteens coach Stephen Betham will take charge of the team at the World Cup only after Faamaoni Lalomilo was dumped from the role in May.
