The American Samoa station chief for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Christina Hammock, has been picked to train to become an astronaut.
34-year-old Ms Hammock, who is originally from Jacksonville in North Carolina, has been station chief since August last year and has stayed on for a longer term because she loves American Samoa.
She beat out thousands of applicants from across the United States to be selected for the training with the National Atmospheric and Space Administration, or NASA, and cannot believe she was picked.
"There are actually 3 different stages along the way where the candidate field got whittled down and even when I hit the very first stage last August, I couldn't believe it, I was overwhelmed and then right up until I got the phone call from NASA telling me I was accepted I never thought it could happen to me, so it has been az dream come true."
