Tahiti paper apologises for front page error

10:13 am on 28 June 2013

The Nouvelles de Tahiti has apologised for printing the wrong photo of man on the front page in a story about two murder suspects.

Its top story said the portrayed man was Tino Mara, who is one of the two former GIP militia members charged with murdering a French Polynesian journalist, Jean-Pascal Couraud, in 1997.

The newspaper says its error is not justifiable and it apologises to the family of the portrayed man as well as to its readers.

It says the man, whose picture was used, has absolutely no link to the murder case and no link to the GIP militia accused of murdering the journalist.
