3:09 pm on 31 July 2013

The Papua New Guinea government has committed more than 217 million US dollars over the next four years for the rebuilding of Mt Hagen General Hospital to a level six trauma specialist hospital.

The Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, and the Health Minister, Michael Malabag, made the commitment in Mt Hagen at the weekend.

The Post Courier quotes Mr Malabag as saying the money will be made available over the next four years, with the first 21 million dollars to be allocated in next year's budget.

Mr Malabag says the government is concentrating on major referral hospitals in the country for a total upgrade before moving to provincial hospitals.
