New Caledonia gunman injures four

Police in New Caledonia say a man in the north of Noumea has opened fire on passers-by and injured four of them.

They say the 25-year-old gunman, who is known to police, has been arrested.

He reportedly stepped out of his house and used his rifle to shoot at people at random, hitting two adults and two children.

The victims suffered head and leg injuries and were taken to hospital.

Reports say police are still checking the area to see if there are more shooting victims
