The Niuean government is in discussions with authorities in Thailand on the potential to export noni leaves for tea.

The Niuean government is continuing to develop the noni industry by maintaining its farm and meeting market demand from Asia, despite the loss of its joint venture partner, Reef Group, which went into receivership a year ago.

The Premier, Toke Talagi says the noni industry has a positive future in Niue.

"We can produce good noni and there is potential for us also to market noni leaves for tea. We've been talking to the Thai's about this, the possibilities of harvesting noni, noni leaves for making tea."

Toke Talagi says the receivers of Reef Group, Price Waterhouse Coopers are yet to determine what will happen to the shares from the defunct company.
