Tonga's police commissioner Grant O'Fee says rumours he has resigned are false.
Mr O'Fee, who is a New Zealander, is going home this week for a month's leave but says he has no idea how the rumours began.
He says at the start he felt inclined to ignore them but when additional rumours began to circulate that deputy commissioner 'Unga Fa'aoa had been demoted and acting deputy commissioner Salote Tonga dismissed, he felt he had to issue a brief statement.
Mr O'Fee says he is not resigning and his senior personnel are staying in their roles as well.
He says the coconut wireless in Tonga is big as well as wrong.
