A former West Papua activist who now works with the Jakarta government, Franzalbert Yoku, is disputing the view of Papua given to the United Nations by Vanuatu's prime minister Moana Carcasses Kalosil.
Last week Mr Carcasses told a meeting of the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, that about 10 percent of the indigenous population in Papua has been killed by Indonesian security forces over the past 50 years.
He also spoke about the impact on the indigenous Melanesian population in of transmigration and says human rights issues in Papua must be on the UN agenda.
But Mr Yoku, speaking at Fiji National University, says the claims are invalid and Mr Carcasses needs to re-check his facts.
