French Polynesia's municipal workers have ended their strike after the French high commission agreed to a timetable to discuss their grievances.
The strike lasted more than a week but was interrupted because of last weekend's first round of the municipal elections.
The unions have been fearing job losses because of French reforms and opted for a stoppage after the high commissioner deferred a meeting with them until next week.
However, after talks with French high commission officials, the unions ended their strike, being assured of regular meetings until August to review the reforms.
They consider the stoppage as a success for the 4,200 employees they represent.
A planned meeting with the territory's president, which was deferred yesterday, has been called off.
