Sport: Kiwi FC ready for O-League return

12:17 pm on 31 March 2014

Samoan football champions Kiwi FC will be match-hardened come the start of the Oceania Champions League next week.

Kiwi won the O-League Preliminary tournament in American Samoa in October to earn direct qualification into the main draw.

Since then they've been competing in the Samoa domestic league, which wraps up this weekend.

Head coach Martin Tamasese says that will allow them to hit the ground running in the group stages.

"And our overseas players that are based overseas they are still playing for their clubs. We didn't have the time to train together but three days we will be in Fiji so we will put together our team there and It's really easy for our overseas players to adapt and also our locals to adapt with the way that our overseas players are playing so to me as a coach I'm confident with our preparation".

Kiwi FC last competed in Oceania's elite club competition in 1999.

Their first O-League match is against New Zealand heavyweights Waitakere United, with the Solomon Warriors and AS Pirae from Tahiti also in their pool.
