Vanuatu PM hurt by fire cracker

Vanuatu's Prime Minister, Moana Carcasses, has suffered reportedly minor eye injuries from fireworks during celebrations over early results of the Port Vila by-election.

Preliminary results show Jean-Yves Chabod is leading the contest.

A government official, Letty Kaltonga, says the injuries are minor and that the Prime Minister is resting at home before returning to work.

The seat was made vacant by the sudden death of forrmer Internal Affairs Minister, Patrick Crowby.

The final result is still several days away.
