Most public places in Fiji's capital, Suva, have been declared smoke free zones as of Friday.

FBC News reports the World Health Organisation's setting coordinator, Peni Veilave, saying that those caught smoking will be issued a fine of over 100 US dollars.

Mr Veilave says enforcement monitors from the Suva City Council will be monitoring as part of an effort to tackle non communicable diseases.
