Supporters in Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill's electorate have threatened to shut down the country's lucrative LNG project if he is forced to resign.
Protestors in Port Moresby and other main centres have called on Mr O'Neill to resign after he was implicated in a corruption probe that resulted in an arrest warrant that is being challenged today in the National Court.
But our correspondent, Todagia Kelola says residents in the Southern Highlands have been protesting against the protests, saying they elected Mr O'Neill and want him to stay.
"What they are saying is: 'No, you can't call on him to step aside because he was never mandated by you. We mandated him and we don't want him to step aside and if the court rules whatever we will respect it. But you can't just force him to step aside because if you force him to step aside we will shut the LNG gas project."
Todagia Kelola says it's unlikely that the LNG project - which supplied its first shipment last month - will actually be shut down.
