Papua New Guinea sprinter Toea Wisil has narrowly missed out on a spot in the 100m final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The 26 year old ran a season best time of 11.44 seconds in her semi final, shaving two tenths of a second off her effort in the heats.

PNG Chef de Mission Emma Waiwai says the team is still very proud of her achievement.

"You know making it to the semi finals in an event in a tournament like this is something really big for us and for her to get to that stage was really really good. It was unfortunate that she did not make the final. She just missed out, she came fourth in her heat, missing out I think by I think point-zero-one of a second of making it to the final. Otherwise we were very happy she actually got to the semi finals: that's an achievement, a very big achievement. It sets her up even better for the Pacific Games next year as well".

PNG's Martin Gereo also impressed on the track, setting a new personal best of 24.11m in the men's para discus final.
