The new Fugalei market in Samoa is expected to be completed by the end of August.

The Fugalei market was demolished in 2012, with vendors in the meantime moving to privately run or make-shift markets.

The Samoa Observer reports that an official has said there's been pressure from the government to get the market completed before the Small Islands Developing States conference.

The Chinese company, Qing Dao, was given the contract to rebuild the market, which was due to be completed in March.

The official told the paper some of the delays were due to the building supplies being sent all the way from China, and communication difficulties.

The official says the fence that had been blocking the public's has been pulled down because they want to let people know that the market is nearly finished.
