Sport: Financial constraints force SIFF to skip Futsal Invitational

The Solomon Islands Football Federation says a lack of finances and weighing up priorities is behind the decision not to compete at next week's Oceania Futsal Invitational in New Caledonia.

The Kurukuru are four time winners of the Oceania title and represented the region at the past two Futsal World Cups.

A normalisation committee was established last year to run the national federation following financial difficulties.

CEO Neil Poloso says because next week's event is not a qualifying tournament for the 2016 World Cup the decision was made to focus their resources elsewhere.

"It could be used as preparation but they said their main objective in the road-map was to ensure the administration is really well running [with] appropriate infrastructure [and to] have local competitions - these are the priorities before they go into international competition, so that's basically the reasons why we could not put a team at this year's championship".

In the meantime the Kurukuru team will continue to train in Honiara and Neil Poloso says a proper field will be built shortly with the help of FIFA, as in the past the team has trained on a basketball court.
