The President of Nauru, Baron Waqa, says he is pleased with the meeting of Pacific Islands leaders with Thai government officials in Bangkok.
The Bangkok Post reports that at the inaugural meeting, three key areas of cooperation were identified.
It says they are sustainable development, economic cooperation and cooperation in international forums.
Other nations in Asia have in the past also been holding summits with Pacific Islands countries, most notably Japan.
