The Chairman of the Vanuatu-based West Papua Unification Committee says they won't defer to Indonesia on the issue of West Papuan self-determination aspiration.
Pastor Allan Nafuki's statement comes at a time as Indonesia has sent an official delegation on a diplomatic visit to Port Vila this week.
The committee is tasked with organising a Port Vila conference for West Papaun representative political groups to discuss a potential bid to join the melanesian Spearhead Group.
The conference was initially planned for later this month but has now been deferred to the start of October.
However, as preparations for the conference gain momentum, Pastor Nafuki says his committee will make sure that only eligible West Papuans decide on the future of their country.
He says they expect there will be individuals who are sent by Indonesia to try to derail the outcome of the meeting, but that it won't succeed.
Vanuatu's Prime Minister Joe Natuman told the visiting Indonesians the country is fully supportive of West Papuans' right to self-determination.
