American Samoa is considering using poison to kill crop destroying mynah birds.
The bird, which is also known as a flying rat, are reputed to eat just about everything and causes serious damage to property and threatens agriculture.
The director of the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources, Ruth Matagi, says the department is considering chemical control but cannot use it without Food and Drug Administration approval.
She says the only method they can use is trapping but the department does not have enough staff to set traps and collect the birds.
A bill to allow the import and sale of air rifles was proposed earlier this year to give people more options for controlling the bird population.
