Hundreds of overseas delegates have started to arrive for the Small Island Developing States Conference in Samoa.

About seven hundred delegates will stay on board the Pacific Jewel cruise liner which is expected to arrive at Apia wharf on Wednesday.

The vessel is part of New Zealand's assistance for Samoa's preparations for the event and will be in Samoa until Friday next week.

Our correspondent reports the ship is bringing one hundred police officers from New Zealand to help with security at the conference.
