Nauru's judiciary has appointed a new resident magistrate - the third person to serve in the post this year.
The appointee is a Solomon Islander, Emma Garo.
The Nauru government has also appointed two judges to the Supreme Court to join the recently appointed Chief Justice, Fiji's former vice president, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi.
They are Mohammed Shafiullah Khan of Fiji and Elizabeth Hamilton-White of Australia, who were sworn in on Monday.
The government says the appointments are significant, particularly by installing Nauru's first female Supreme Court judge and magistrate.
The government has also sworn in Ratu Joni, who says, given the absence of a Supreme Court judge in Nauru for the last several months, the first order of business will be criminal cases because of their implications for personal liberty.
He says there is also the pressing need for another two court houses and judicial chambers.
