Bainimarama to be sworn in today

With the final tally of votes announced in Fiji, the Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama will be sworn in as Prime Minister at a ceremony in Suva later today.

The Elections Office says FijiFirst secured 60 percent of the total votes, with 293,714 votes, while Sodelpa received 139,857 votes, which is 30 percent of the total.

The National Federation Party has 27,066 votes.

The elections office has announced an 84 percent turnout of voters.

FijiFirst will have 32 seats in the new parliament, Sodelpa 15, and the National Federation Party three.

The President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, will swear in Mr Bainimarama at Government House this afternoon.

The Fijian Elections Office says the turnout was 84 percent.

It says just under one percent of votes were invalid.
