8:19 pm on 30 September 2014

Five police officers from Papua New Guinea's Central province have been arrested in relation to the shooting of a man in Mekeo earlier this month.

PNG Loop reports two of the officers have been charged with attempted murder, with the three others facing charges of serious assault.

The Central police commander, Laimo Asi, says the officers allegedly involved in the incident are from the Bereina police district.

He says the shooting was a case of brutality and should serve as a reminder to his officers that they are not above the law.
