Papua New Guinea's Police Commissioner, Geoffrey Vaki, is vowing to take a zero tolerance approach to corrupt and undisciplined police officers, following reports of abusive police behaviour.
The Post Courier reports incidents where police officers have allegedly twice assaulted staff at a private school in Hohola this week and a University of PNG lecturer was severely bashed at a Port Moresby service station.
There have also been reports that police were involved in a hit-and-run incident near Port Moresby which claimed the life of a woman in her late 60s.
Geoffrey Vaki says the number of abuses by police personnel appear to be increasing daily, despite tough stances taken by the police management over the years.
He has vowed to get rid of rogue police and is strongly warning police officers that any complaint made by the public will be immediately and thoroughly investigated, and appropriate and swift action will be taken.
Mr Vaki says he will also be holding immediate supervisors responsible, but he needs the public to report abusive behaviour and make official complaints.
