The anti-independence camp in new Caledonia has written to the French prime minister, asking the French government to outline its intentions about the territory's future.
The letter was sent by Pierre Frogier of the Rassemblement-UMP group as debate has increased over the last phase of the Noumea Accord, which is to expire with an independence referendum by 2018.
The anti-independence sides have been unhappy about Paris choosing experts linked to past Socialist governments, suggesting that they are too accommodating of the pro-independence groups.
This comes as the French president, Francois Hollande, is due to visit Noumea next month.
The pro-French umbrella group Front for Unity has called for a peaceful demonstration to show its members' desire to stay French.
In a recent interview, Mr Frogier says a fresh accord will be needed after the Noumea Accord ends.
