Drop in registered voters in American Samoa

There's been a drop in the number of people registering to vote in the American Samoa elections this year.

The Election Office says it is seeing a 6 percent drop, or about 1000 people, compared with two years ago.

The Chief Election Officer, Tuaolo Manaia Fruean, says the office is ready to conduct next Tuesday's polls, when voters elect a delegate to the US Congress and 20 of the 21 members of the American Samoa House of Representatives.

Voters will also have their say on a constitutional amendment to give the power to override the governor's veto of legislation.
