Several villages in Samoa have received funding from Japan to construct new school buildings.

Salelologa in Savaii and Matautu and Vaovai Falealili in Upolu, have each received more than 95 thousand US dollars from Japan's Small Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects.

The village of Manunu and the Samoa Victim Support Group will also be getting the same financial assistance.

The Ambassador of Japan to Samoa, Kazumasa Shibuta, says Japan is also helping Samoa on other major projects such as electricity.

"Diesel generation is most effective, and stable, therefore I recommend to use as stable electricity generation by the diesel. I know that diesel cost is expensive, and electricity cost is expensive, but it's stable."

Kazumasa Shibuta says his country has been helping Samoa under the Grassroots Assistance scheme since 1991, donating about 15 million US dollars.
